The primary goal of the SATURDAY PREPARATION ACADEMY program will be TO INCREASE STUDENT PERFORMANCE ON THE CONNECTICUT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE TEST (CAPT) – A STATE REQUIRED EXAMINATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.
The program aims to accomplish this by:
- Reinforcing and supporting all of the efforts at SMSA relating to CAPT skills
- Teaching skills assessed in CAPT
- Raising awareness about the importance of CAPT
- Focusing on test taking strategies related to the CAPT
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The SATURDAY CAPT PREPARATION ACADEMY is designed to offer SMSA 10th , 11TH , and 12th graders the opportunity to gain additional CAPT skills. SMSA teachers will focus on English, math, and science. Students will have forty five minutes of instruction in each area. The program will take place on the following eight Saturdays:

January 19 February 16
January 26 March 23
February 2 March 1
Students attending the SATURDAY CAPT PREPARATION ACADEMY will follow a specific schedule:

8:30 – 9:00 Breakfast/One on one – small group tutoring
9:00 – 9:45 Session I (Math/English/Science)
9:45 – 10:30 Session II (Math/English/Science)
10:30 – 11:15 Session III (Math/English/Science)
11:15 – 12:00 Lunch and Dismissal
In addition to the extra CAPT skills taught by SMSA staff, Mr. Genao will provide bus tokens, breakfast and a pizza lunch for students participating in the Academy. Each week, students who participate in all three sessions (English, math, and science) will receive a FREE HOLLYWOOD VIDEO/GAME TICKET (provided by Attorney Dressler and MEGA EDUCATION®). Students will also receive certificates of recognition, and eligibility for end of year awards for perfect attendance at all CAPT Saturday sessions.
