The Roberto Clemente League, Inc. of Greater Hartford was founded in 1996 by Juan Sanchez. Since then the League’s committee members have worked hard to get as many boys and girls from ages 5 – 16 involved in a positive activity during the summer months. The League focuses on providing a positive experience for the children that emphasizes self confidence and life skills within the context of team sport. Each year we provided over 450 kids determination, confidence and a chance to prosper and stay off the streets by giving them a place of belonging while teaching them to play the game they love…Baseball!
In the year of 2007, a team represented the league in the Disney’s Salute to Baseball Tournament in Florida and they brought home the GOLD Medal! The League has a new objective to teach the kids the value of giving back to their community (like Roberto Clemente who believed in helping others). Now, when the kids receive their trophy at the end of the season they are asked to bring one or as many canned goods to provide to one of the local homeless shelters.
